There’s a story about a young fur trapper that comes upon an older fur trapper that is known throughout the land as the BEST trapper around.

The first trapper turns to the seasoned fur trapper and asks if he can teach him his techniques.

The old fur trapper teaches the young trapper everything that he knew, and then stated that he was going to go home and spend time with his family and will return a year later, eager to see what the young fur trapper created in his stead.

He goes and when he returns, there is no fur trapping business to be seen. Even the cabin the old fur trapper left in the care of the young fur trapper was gone. Thinking the worse, the old fur trapper discovered that the young fur trapper had never left. Perplexed, he sought him out, and when the old trapper found the young man, he asked what had happened to his fur trapping trade.

The young man stated that over the past year he lost interest in the trade because what the old trapper told him didn’t work for him, so he changed it and then lost interest when that didn’t work out either and decided to tackle something else instead.

When I was knocking doors after I faced bankruptcy, I humbly asked what I needed to do to succeed. I was teachable and workable in learning more so that I could succeed.

My manager told me the steps to success, the first of which was to go and interview the top guys. Take notes, then do what they tell you to do.

And guess what I did?

I did exactly what they told me to do.

The result?

It WORKED.

I was able to eventually double my numbers because I listened and followed the steps to success as given to me by those that were successful.

In sum, here are the 3 simple steps to success:

  1. Go interview the top leaders in your industry.
  2. Take notes.
  3. Follow the steps.

Do what your coaches tell you to do. It really is that simple, and these steps can be followed across the board in your life.

Ask yourself:

* Who must I go and interview?

* What notes could I take?

* Where do I need to follow the steps that have been given to me?

Don’t be like the young fur trapper and follow the steps to success your coaches tell you what to do. Quit complicating it.
