Learning from the Pursuit of Happyness
Posted on 08. Sep, 2009 by Setema Gali in Creator, Paradigm Shift, Prosperity
I just finished watching Will Smith’s Pursuit of Happyness. It’s the story that is based on the true events from the life of Chris Gardener. I heard Chris speak two years ago and was deeply touched.
Why was I deeply touched? Because I have lost my homes, my cars, my furniture, been kicked out, been without income for a few years and have scraped by…yep, hanging on that thread.
The thread though is connected to God so the thread will suffice for now. ![]()
What an awesome movie! Inspiring and touching to say the least. I watched it twice in two days while working on my business. I even cried…but don’t let anyone else know that.
It’s powerful because you have this man who will not quit not matter what.
You have this man who will not be distracted.
You have this man who will not fail regardless of the situations and the circumstances.
How many obstacles did he face?
His wife left him.
He was thrown in jail.
He was kicked out of his apartment.
He failed miserably at selling those machines.
He lived in shelters and on the streets.
He had little or no money at time.
He slept in bathrooms, on the street and endured.
I could go on and on. Have you gone through anything remotely close to this? If so CONGRATULATIONS…THAT IS AWESOME! ![]()
This is almost like my own story..that is why I resonate so much with it!
What did I learn from the story of Chris Gardener played by Will Smith? I was reminded of many but I’ll share two.
1. If you really want something, you’ll do anything and everything (ethical and moral) to obtain it.
At anytime in his life he could have quit and blamed it on circumstance, situation, other people, his wife, the color of his skin….BUT HE DIDN’T. People say they really want something but when it comes to doing what it takes to get it, they won’t do it.
When I played football and wanted to be the best I could, I trained 4 days a week, ate like a horse, ran hard even through the pain of the lactic acid in my legs and even though my lungs felt like they were going to explode.
When I wanted to learn how to play the piano, I spent between 30-40 hours a week practicing. In the beginning of ANYTHING, all your energy and focus must be in the same direction.
How bad do you want what you want? Do you lay awake at night dreaming about how badly you want it?

Have You Felt Like This Before? Wondering What You're Going To Do to Make Another Day? Keep Moving Forward.
Do you even know what really want?
Take time to write down exactly what you want and the price you’re willing to pay to do it.
If someone offered you a million dollars to shovel poop for 1 year 60 hours a week would you do it?
Well, Chris Gardener shoveled the poop and kept shoveling so to speak. We all have a price to pay, are you willing to pay the price?
2. Success Is A Decision, A Journey and a Result
Chris Gardener never let failure stop him. In fact, he learned from each ‘failure’ and continued to move forward. How many of us stop after one attempt and failure? Sad to say most people in Chris’s situation would have failed and quit and given up.
Becoming the right person is the KEY. This right person is what I call becming a CREATOR!
A Creator does what he/she has committed to do NO MATTER WHAT.
A Creator doesn’t make reasons or excuses, they simply get the RESULT. It’s Reasons or Results, can’t be both.
A Creator creates maximum value in all situations regardless of circumstance. Are circumstances and situations stopping you from achieving and obtaining goals?
If so, you’ll be stopped no matter what. If discomfort and fear of failure is holding you back from achieving massive success, you’ll be stopped all the time.
If fear of what other people think is stopping you from doing what you feel would make a difference in the lives of others, you’ll be miserable most of your life.
Once you figure out exactly what you want, commit to it, set a plan, move forward, course correct and keep moving forward.
As seen in the movie, Chris Gardener NEVER STOPPED BELIEVING, MOVING AND WORKING.
If you stop and quit, you fail. Remember that because in the journey of life most people stop and quit then wonder why their life is mediocre at best.
If you keep believing, keep moving, keep searching, keep asking, keep learning, keep working and keep enduring, you’ll find success.
Success is deliberately choosing what you truly desire, then embarking on that journey with a good plan in hand that most never take because of fear, doubt, lack and worry.
Success comes as a result of following the laws and principles that success is based upon. Success like everything else in life follows laws and principles.
Look at every successful person from family, relationships, sports, business, money and on and on. They all follow a set of guidelines and principles that aren’t secrets to most but most act like it’s a secret to find prosperity and success.
Here’s the bottom line:
Are you becoming the type of person who will succeed NO MATTER WHAT or will you make excuses and reasons as to why you can’t and shouldn’t succeed?
Are you willing to pay a hefty price to achieve happiness, prosperity and abundance or will you give in to the circumstances and situations of the daily rigors of life?
I already know how my story ends. I know what awaits me. It’s like watching a movie on the big screen. We knew Chris Gardner would succeed. It was just a matter of watching him go through the ups and downs of what he did to get there.
For me, it’s just a matter of going through the script of the ‘story’ to become that type of person who attracts and creates success. But I already know in my mind and heart how my life movie ends. This allows me to find joy each and every day.
Can you envision the story of your life and how it’s unfolding?
Do one thing today to make a change in your life.:)
Be a person of your word. Set a goal and do it no matter what. Exercise. Read and study more. Pray more. Serve more. Throw aside the things that are keeping you from becoming a true Creator.
Yesterdays beliefs, thoughts, feelings and actions brought today’s results. Today’s beliefs, thoughts, feelings and actions bring tomorrow’s results.

Are circumstances and situations stopping you from achieving and obtaining goals? That question right there hit me like a ton of bricks. Got me pondering about the situation I am in right now! I want to “Thank You”, again for sharing your knowledge! Thank you, Thank you ,Thank you!! A little while ago I made a decision to increase my knowledge, education and skills. And now that I am faced with adversity, even though I am consciously aware of these negative thoughts and how it could affect me according to the stickman concept, yet I chose to shrink and I began telling myself that maybe the timing is off or maybe this was not the right path or as you put it, coming up with excuses. After reading this post I am inspired and motivated to own up to my choices and I will now look for the solutions and get the results. I know what I want, but am I willing to pay the price? Million dollar question! Am I willing to be proactive and take the initiative to be responsible for my own life and not let circumstance impede my progression towards achieving and living my goal. Ultimately being a creator and maximizing value! I failed to realize this earlier but now I learned my lesson and will continue to look for the good in every situation. Thank you for sharing! Thank you for reminding me of my responsibility to self and the world. Thank you for inspiring people through your wisdom, knowledge and passion! Here’s to creating maximum value 24/7!

Reasons or Results!!!!!! LOL
I hate that statement when I am making excuses as to why I didn’t do something, but I love it because it is what I need to hear at a time like that. Thanks man, I love that movie.
