Climbing the Mountain Everyday To Experience the Tops of the Mountain

Posted on 12. Oct, 2009 by in Paradigm Shift

Experience This Everyday

I often speak of changing your life and creating the life you want. This post is dedicated  specifically to covering one of the things I do daily to Create the Life I Truly Want and Love!

Spiritual Beings in a Physical Body

I believe we are spiritual beings having a physical experience. Therefore each day I have a choice to make. Either I choose to let my physical body govern me or I choose to let my spiritual body govern me. No matter what I did yesterday, I must choose each and every single day.

The major problem with allowing the physical body to govern is that it is a carnal and sensual being. It’s the EGO, or often times called the Natural Man (Mosiah 3:19). It’s like having a reptile in our mind and yes if unbridled and untamed can and will lead us to a path of unhappiness and misery. Look at the lives of people who allowed their ‘natural man’ or ‘natural woman’ guide them. The results are misery, unhappiness and pain.

The scriptures teach us “the natural man is an enemy to God…unless he yields to the enticings of the Holy Spirit, and putteth off the natural man…”

No matter how incredible one day is, it cannot sustain me for the next day. How do I put off the natural man and allow myself to have my Daily Divine Reset?

I choose to climb the mountain every single day!

Learning From the Great Prophets of the Past

Moses went to the tops of the mountain to pray and converse with God. There were no temples built in his time. It is in the tops of the mountain that he receive knowledge, understanding and wisdom.

No matter how spiritual one day is, we must have our daily divine reset, our power hour or what I call my Tops of the Mountain Experience. Nephi, (1 Nephi 18:3) another prophet of God was commanded to ‘get thee up into the mountain’ and it is there that the Lord spoke with him.

The Power of Prayer

Each morning I awake no matter how long my night was, no matter how tired I am, I have conditioned and trained my mind and heart to immediately pray. As my feet hit the floor I pray. I express gratitude to God. There’s saying prayers and then there is praying. There is a huge difference between going through the motions and really speaking with the Lord.

I enter my office and get on my knees and offer up my humble cry to God, the Creator of worlds without number.

Converse with God in your personal tops of the mountain.

The Power of Study

I begin my studies. I study everything from the Book of Mormon, the Bible, the Ensign and other powerful literary works written and/or inspired by the finger of God.

Click here to know the other books I am currently reading. Let me put this in simple language. I have read more books in any 6 month span right now than I did throughout high school and college COMBINED! Sad but true. I have changed since then. I love to learn. Earners are learners. Let me repeat that…EARNERS ARE LEARNERS and Learners are Earners!

The Power of Meditation

Usually after but not always after, I take time to meditate, visualize and ponder. Many blessings are promised to those who meditate, visualize and ponder. I visualize my goals. I visualize what I want. I visualize and ponder on the great things the Lord has already given me. I see my life as I want it and feel it as I am already in it.

There are numerous times the Lord visits those who are pondering and blesses them and opens up the heavens. I do a gratitude segment in my meditation where I express gratitude and get in the feeling of gratitude. It’s not like I haven’t faced adversity. Look at any one of my previous blogs and you’ll see it’s been a financial wilderness over the past 2.5 years but I am filled with gratitude for it. Gratitude and feeling the gratitude in full sincerity is POWER! When we are grateful we get into a vibration of gratitude it allows us to receive. “I am an EXCELLENT receiver.”

The Power of Keeping A Record

I keep a journal on my laptop as well as a handwritten brown covered journal that records my thoughts and inspiration through my study.  When we learn to record the inspiration from God and follow it, He gives us more. Click here for an amazing talk on this subject.

"God is more anxious to help us than we are to be helped by him."

I pray fervently through my study. I allow the Spirit of God to touch my mind and inspire my heart. I then begin the ‘physical’ day of work, exercise, parenting duties etc.

When I begin my day in the ‘Tops of the Mountains’ I recharge my spiritual batteries. I plug-in to the source of happiness. I prepare myself for the pulls of the world.

Early To Bed Early To Rise

This quote comes from a talk click here for the full talk

There is also a great value that can come to the early riser. Years ago my wife and I were driving with President and Sister Marion G. Romney. Along the way, President Romney shared some of his personal experiences when he was first called to serve as a General Authority in 1941. He felt he needed some advice, so he went to Elder Harold B. Lee, a new member of the Quorum of the Twelve. He asked him how to be a successful General Authority. Elder Lee answered, “Go to bed early and get up early. If you do, your body and mind will become rested, and then, in the quiet of those early morning hours, you will receive more flashes of inspiration and insight than at any other time of the day.”

This ‘climbing the mountain’  can be any amount of time. When I was still young in my spirituality climbing the mountain was quick. I now like to take between 30-60 minutes. If I could I would spend 2-3 hours reading, studying and meditating. If I get a late start in my day then it’s shorter nevertheless I still climb the mountain. If it’s only 10-20 minutes I still climb the mountain. The point is…CLIMB THE MOUNTAIN.

When I don’t climb the mountain and have the daily divine rest…well, it’s a very difficult road to travel the rest of the day. No matter whether I am in a hotel traveling or if I’ve stayed up late for my newborn son or to take care of my sick son or wife, I begin each day with the Tops of the Mountain experience.

What Do I Truly Want

I want power from God to be strong against the natural man inside of me. I desire greater patience, greater faith and greater humility. I want to be a light for my wife and children. I want to influence others to know Him who walked the shores of Galilee. I want to shine light on the path that others are traveling so they can feel the divine guidance that I feel and the warmth of the Saviors love which is all-encompassing.

Climb the Mountian and Experience It Yourself

Take Action Now

Those who never climb the mountain never get what I am talking about. Those who do climb the mountain daily know exactly what I am talking about. In fact we connect spiritually and verbally. There is an unsaid understanding and connection. Some call it spiritual maturity. Others call it spiritual power. Regardless of what it’s called, in order to experience the Tops of the Mountain…you MUST climb the mountain. The more you climb, the more power you receive.

It’s 5:16 AM now and I will finish my Tops of the Mountain Experience. Wouldn’t you love to begin your day in the Tops of the Mountain?

I’ll see you at the Top.

Please share your experience so that others may benefit!

    Hi, Setema!

Yes! “I heard all this stuff before?” Thank you for share! lol But seriously. I was so convicted in my spirit about everything you talked about regarding goal setting and putting action to those things we say that we want and the necessary sacrifices necessary to achieve our goals and reach our destination.

I am and have somewhat lost for awhile. I am a minister, single mom of a 16 year old wonderful teenage daughter, and unemployed. I am taking 100% responsibility for where I find myself today. By no means do I brag about myself but I have to locate myself.

I am stuck and have tried to pull myself up and am have such a HARD time doing it! Yet, I keep climbing my mountain tops; I keep on praying, and serving others, and I get great feedback from them! I cannot figure out (yet) how to turn things around. I have degrees (3 to be exact, a bachelors and 2 master degrees), and over $100,000 in student loan debts to prove it!

I pray and cry and ask God what is it going to take for me to really MOVE? I am determined to put ACTION where my MOUTH is! I don’t believe in accidents or coincidences but divine connections and appointments that God sets up. And I truly believe that YOU (Setema Gal) is my divine connection from the Holy Spirit to help me. I know that God spoke to your heart and that’s why I was one of the winners to your contest. I have and am making movements (slowly) but taking action.

I have my first webinar next Wednesday with another person that I reached out to and asked to mentor me and host a webinar together to which she said yes to both! I thank God for you and your gift of helping others to get to their destination and to climb their mountain every day no matter what! :o )

    Setema,

Love this video! I decided to do this in segments. I’m about halfway thru and have already taken action on the first half. I’ll post or email you some details when I’m done with the second half later today.

I took one point very literally from this– I climbed an actual mountain on Saturday. An 11,000 foot mountain. It pushed me physically and mentally and put me in a state where I could learn and accept higher principles. I recorded my days Sat. and Sun., and I’m proud to say my actions took me closer to my goals.

Awwww! Moment: My Daily ROCK STAR.

I used to be a fan, on and off, of the energy drinks. After a few daily doses they just didn’t seem to work anymore. I thought some days I couldn’t function or get through the day if I didn’t have one. I would always wonder and try to think back in the days before the energy drink, “How did I ever make it before”?

Today…I’m the ROCK STAR! After reading and listening to this segment on climbing the mountain, and listening to truly inspired people this whole weekend, I decided to start climbing the mountain again. I eased my way into goal setting and started by making some simple changes so that I wasn’t overwhelmed, but something clicked and I knew that this part of my change was going to be all or non. Today or never.

On a previously normal day, I wake up at 5:00am and make sure my kids are up. I go back to bed for 30 minutes and then get up again and drive them to early morning seminary. I get home at 6:30am…go back to bed for another 30 minutes, then wake my wife up, get ready, then head out for work.

Today…I had a ROCK STAR! Not the drink. It was a ROCK STAR moment. I was up at 5:00am and I prayed and meditated for 30 minutes…and didn’t fall asleep! We had family prayer before I took the kids to seminary. I got home and studied the scriptures until 6:30am. Then got ready for work. I AM PUMPED! I wish I could bottle this ROCK STAR experience and share it everyone. I am so amazed at how easy it was to find an extra hour in my mornings to climb the mountain.

Hey! If I can do this, everyone else can do this and more! You’ll never regret having those quite moments to charge your mental and spiritual batteries. When your mind is charged and you have clear set goals and plans for the day, you body will follow. Now go get your daily ROCK STAR moment!

Thank you Setema for opening the door.

    God Bless

Awesome Eric. You never know until you actually try, do and commit. Way to go my brother! Nothing better than those early morning hours to find solemnity, serenity and peace plus putting yourself in favorable position to prosper the rest of the day.

Ok, done with the video and wow! I gotta say, Setema, this one hit me the hardest of all. What a simple concept! I formulated my own mountain climb yesterday and started this morning.

I can’t say I’m not tired, but I am invigorated. I’ve been so used to trading that morning “mountain” time for a few extra minutes of sleep that I never realized what I was missing. This morning wasn’t perfect, and I’ll adjust as the days go by. Here’s the deal, though. I’ve committed to do it daily, which means no matter what the stress and confusion the day brings, I’ve got that commitment to hold to like an anchor.

Today, most of all, I have a deep sense of clarity. I know what I need to do. I’m aware of my goals. Funny as it sounds, I feel guiltier when tempted to stray from them. I’ve finished my to-do list with little distraction, and made a few really important business decisions that I’ve been putting off forever.

LOVE this post, the video, and the message. I’m looking forward to the rest of the One Night Transformation audio.

Probably the most powerful way to make a lasting and meaningful change in life is your personal commitment to your spiritual regimen. Thank you for sharing and for setting a great example.

Good Information. I have heard about meditation before from others who I’ve seen are successful at setting/achieving goals and living their best life. Looks like I will start getting up a little earlier each day.

Hey Setema, you said “I have read more books in any 6 month span right now than I did throughout high school and college COMBINED!”, and you know what? I couldn’t agree more. I really didn’t read any book before I’m done with my formal education. The first book I ever picked up at a bookstore and finish reading was Rich dad Poor Dad. And then it just never ends. I continue to buy more and read more since then. Most of the times, I really do think the most suitable and inspiring time and place to grab a book and read is everywhere but school. Hehe…It’s weird but it just the way it is happening.

As always, may you and your family be blessed with a lot of good lucks. Live strong and live with passion, as quoted by Tony Robbins.
