During family and date nights, I keep seeing a recurring theme: 99.99% of the times everyone is glued to technology or their phones.

The reason I recognized it because I was just as bad.

I wasted precious moments with my wife, children and loved ones, and now we are invested in interacting with each other.

Clarity is power, so based upon what I want, I had to make a shift from the obsession I had with technology.

This technology addiction caused me to waste memories with those that I love being around the most, so I created a blackout time in which I put my phone away.

It was hard, just like shifting any addiction, but now I love having that time of being off technology.

I do this with coaching events, which always has resistance in the beginning, but eventually this blackout time from technology becomes something we all look forward to.

  1. Designate clarity of what you want
  2. Define blackout time
  3. Put phone away from where you are

Get really clear about how you want your relationships to be and why that matters. If you get clear about the things that matter the most, you will be able to have an epic life.

Ask yourself:

* What things am I currently doing today that stop me from getting what I want?

* How can I be more present?

* What can I do today to show those that I love that they matter?

By showing my children that they are more important than my smart phone, they will grow up knowing that. If I am always glued to my phone, what does that teach my boys about what’s most important?
